Case No. 10/00825/AVC |
| Location The White Stuff, Unit 2, 4-8 Market St, SO23 9EP. |
| Proposal Fascia sign and hanging sign (Mr G Thomas). |
| Comments The Trust did not like the proposed difficult-to-read signage, and felt the simple and clear lettering of the existing signs were more sympathetic to its sensitive position as the visual stop when looking west along Market St. The TYrust therefore OBJECTED. |

Case No. 10/00927/FUL |
| Location Corinium House, 10-14 Andover Rd, SO23 7BX. |
| Proposal New roof to porch, new gates, replace boundary fence and add solar control system (Struan Investments Ltd) . |
| Comments The tiled pitched roof proposed for the porch seemed inappropriate for the style and design of the original building. The Trust OBJECTED to this aspect of the application. |

Case No. 10/00958/FUL |
| Location 11 Fox Lane, SO22 4DX. |
| Proposal Extend existing building to form annex to main dwelling (Householder) Mr and Mrs R Stileman). |
| Comments No explanation was given for the need for this annex, something that is usually attached to or sited close to a property to provide supplementary accommodation. This completely self-contained unit would be at the bottom of the garden and have separate access from a footpath running along the boundary and would be ideal for student accommodation or for selling on as a separate unit. The Trust felt it would set an undesirable precedent for the area and OBJECTED. It has just been Granted, on condition that at no time should it be occupied as an independent unit of accommodation. |

Case No. 10/00967/FUL |
| Location 19 Bereweeke Way, SO22 6BJ. |
| Proposal 2-storey side extension (Householder Mrs A Wood). |
| Comments Although the neo-Georgian style of the houses might not be to everyone’s taste, the design and layout are very important components in the street scene. The Trust felt that permitting the proposed extension would set an unacceptable precedent because it would be 2-storey development across the site and remove a chimney important to the visual rhythm of the road. The Trust therefore OBJECTED. |

Case No. 10/01054/AVC |
| Location Dolland & Aitchison, 64 High St, SO23 9BX. |
| Proposal Externally illuminated traditional style hand-painted aluminium fascia by trough lighting; Boots logo to ‘Opticians’ text incorporating the D & A text; non-illuminated hanging sign in traditional style hand-painted aluminium (Boots Company). |
| Comments The signs were very similar to those refused in January and details about the trough lighting seemed to be missing from the documents the Trust saw. The Trust also wondered how the ‘hand-painted’ aluminium surfaces and the ‘applied vinyl graphics would appear in this sensitive position. The Trust therefore OBJECTED as being detrimental to the street scene. |

| Location 5-11 Kynegils Rd, SO22 6DF. |
| Proposal 2x2-bed and 2x3-bed dwellings, parking, etc (Portfolio Design Ltd). |
| Comments The Trust wondered why a scheme so similar to the one refused in 2008 was being resubmitted and OBJECTED again as being overdevelopment of the site, noting that there were no details about the sustainability levels proposed for the development. |

Case No. 10/01252/FUL |
| Location 21 Teg Down Meads, SO22 5NF. |
| Proposal Single storey rear and front extensions and 2-storey side extension (Resubmission)(Mr S Swift). |
| Comments Although reduced in height in response to the previous refusal, the 2-storey side extension would still result in the loss of open space between the buildings and the front porch would still have a sloping roof in place of the existing flat one. The Trust felt that both would be detrimental to the street scene and that the ungainly stepped silhouette of the 2-storey extension would be ugly for those living to the rear. The Trust therefore OBJECTED. |

Case No. 10/01006/FUL |
| Location 19 City Rd, SO23 8SD. |
| Proposal New shop front with disabled access (Retrospective (Chaw Su Kyi). |
| Comments The urgent repairs needed for the shop front of this new orthodontic surgery were carried out without waiting for permission so that the required opening date could be met; it was then learnt that disable access required an external ramp. The result is a disaster: the design and materials (uPVC windows) fail to respect either the period of the building or its surroundings. The Trust strongly OBJECTED, suggesting the shop front should be replaced by one with a set-back entrance (like the one that was replaced) which might be able to accommodate the ramp in a more sympathetic manner. It is particularly unfortunate that the elevation and photos the Trust saw at the planning office are not available on the website. |
