Describing these winners George Ferguson also mentioned other entries which had been of particular interest to the judges, including:

  • New flats at Cathedral View and Chilcomb Place, both on Highcliffe Road, which tackled difficult changes of level;
  • Tight but neighbourly group of new houses at Hazel Court, Hillside Close;
  • Transformation of an old cinema/bingo hall into the Middle Brook Centre/Family Church;
  • New houses for key workers at St Luke's Court, Stanmore, replacing a redundant garage court;
  • Wykeham Terrace (as above) which reinforced the traditional character of Bar End Road.
